Further off-topic, since it's solved: I'm willing to bet most people here started before they could wipe their own @$$, it's not all that uncommon, AKAIK. I'm 16(started about 2 years ago), and that's old compared to when some start. (And yes, I could wipe my own @$$ at 14. ) When you take Calc III, and score an overall grade of 100%, as a Sophomore in HS(I didn't, a friend of mine did.), then I want to hear about it.

Dang, really? Hmm... I guess the rule isn't universal, therefore it's not a rule, but a generalisation. I think I would have started earlier if I'd had access to a computer at an earlier age, I assume you may be thee same. I learned simple VB(Yes, I know, VB sucks... we were all inexperienced in the beginning. ) a week after we got our first computer in my household. I'm willing to bet you picked it up rather quickly, no?

Actually, it's likely that whilst many of us started programming early, most of us active here are 'professional age'; mid to late twenties, thirties, even forties. I'm in the middle there, though as noted elsewhere I started programming when I was seven.

Also, bear in mind that this is the kind of area where you can easily bump into people whose personal achievements (or those of their close friends) might very well be far beyond the average. Not going to blow my own trumpet, especially as it's not that relevant, but suffice to say that your quoted achievement wouldn't impress me. ;¬)

IIRC, I technically stared programming when I was 4, with a graphical programming environment (Cocoa) for the Macintosh. I didn't learn how to really program (i.e. not HTML, not VB) until age 14 though.

Small world - I have a friend who did that too (although I don't know his exact grade, it was afaik an A). He took it at the same time as Calc BC (I/II) somehow. Unfortunately, I can't seem to sway him on disliking CS, even the mathier side of it.

The guy I'm talking about won't even consider CS... IDK why, it's like upper level intellectuals look down on us like we're the mathematicians who aren't good enough to get a career in math. Not that he would ever look down on anyone, I'm just generalising.
