I wounder how much Chase makes on the Microsoft banner??

Chase offers a great website which is something like the "root directory of all of all osdev websites".
I have no problem with the banner.

Yes, it's the first banner in the history of osdev.org and it's (gasp!) a microsoft banner.

In case anyone is wondering, I've been asked before to put banners on my site and have always turned them done. This was the first banner that was just about getting OS developers a job. That in my opinion is a good thing.

As far how much I make of it....I won't even make enough to cover domain registation fees that I've gotten since I started this site (around 1999 I think) much less all hosting fees. I've probably spend in the thousands over the years for something that has always been free to anyone.

And if anyone is wondering if I favor MS in any way you should know that for a day to day living I'm a Sun Microsystems Java & Solaris Instructor. If that isn't at the other end of the spectrum I don't know what is

On the subject of banners...one of the items on my todo list for the redesign of osdev.org is a free banner exchange program for non commercial OS. I haven't worked out the details but in a month or two there will be details on this site.

Well I don't think it's wrong with banners.
What is so fun is that Microsoft tries to recruite people from
a community that Gates hates (Open Source, Linux), and that's not
everybody likes him and his OS. It is a kind of paradox.
Wath is interesting to see if there will be any interest/loyalty
conflicts between the recruits and the company.
I don't meant to be rude but it is interesting to see how
much Microsoft is ready to pay to eliminate the Open source community.

I don't actually think it's about eliminating the open source community. Yea, they've classified Linux as a threat now but do you really think they see the average person that does OS research in his spare time as a threat? I don't know...some people see them as more evil then me. They are a business after all.

I think there are just a lot less people in todays world that are into OS research then there used to be. The amount of college course and books written that cover assembly and system programming is on the decline just based on publication dates on all the books I've picked up over the years. I think it's about just getting in front of the people that are into it.

I think it's more important to get a job doing what you like then who you work for anyway. No worries about me taking it wrong. If it was a banner that would offend people that I designed this site for then I would never have put it up.

if it keeps the site going, i'm all for it! I need to find a new host for MT but most hosts ive looked into are serisouly out of touch with pricing. :/ or you only get about 20mb space.

Well banners could be really good, wy don't let more companies advertise for jobs. Or even have a link to a page for jobs.

Part of what I'm working on right now is going to be a section of osdev.org for jobs and also unpaid project openings.
