GRUB modules, vbe, boot_device

I use GRUB to manage boot of my operating system.
The only things I can't understand are:
1 - How to load modules with GRUB? (I want to load the driver for the boot device, and the driver for the root filesystem)
2 - How to make GRUB enter a specific video mode with VBE?
3 - How can I know the boot device?
