I've explored with Hex Workshop the first sectors of the Ubuntu CD. Each sector is of 2048 bytes. The first 16 sectors are empty. In the 17th sector there is the label and other information...

You can use a bootable floppy image, along with your cd burn software to make a bootable CD, look in your burn software for something like "make bootable", click on it it, it will ask for a bootable image, point it to a floppy image or a bootable floppy in the a: drive, it with add 2 bin file to the cd, once you burn it, it's bootable.
