Hello all.

Does anyone know of any documentation in .txt or .html format on controlling an ATAPI CDROM drive through direct port access? Failing that, would there be any interest if I were to write such a document?

Can I safely take the lack of response as a "No" and a "Not really", respectively?

You have enough knowledge in the subject to write one? As for if there is one, I'm not sure. I'm sure there is.

Why not try looking?
A search for atapi cdrom documentation from google gave a few pretty good sites.

A search for atapi standards at google rather.

www.ata-atapi.com appears to be more source code than documentation.
www.t13.org is all PDFs.

Whenever I search, I get PDF documentation at best, not text documentation. And PDF is awful hard to write a viewer for.

No, I don't have enough knowledge. But I will once I write a CD player for my OS, and that's an item on my short-to-mid term todo list.

That's how I usually do things. If I have to figure out something badly documented or undocumented, I'll consider writing a document on the subject. And, for where I am right now, anything not documented in easily available inexpensive hardcopy or .txt format is badly documented.
