What tools?

Hi all I am newly registered but have been visiting this site on and off for years now. Although I have only created a simple hello world kernel, I understand most of the more complex theories (but of coarse with a few holes).

Forgive me for my laziness, I was wondering what most of you use for your disk image manipulation? I was considering writing an OS Dev IDE with GTK+, since I did not find one lately but I actually remember a very buggy one that I tried a few years back.

As far as my knowledge extends on grep and sed, they're for text files only, correct me if I am wrong.

I am now serious about moving forward with my projects, so its time to start gathering my tools and forging a plan of attack.

For my images, I use MTools, mostly for being command-line capable.
