http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel what to i download?

I recently visted the Linux kernel webpage and clicked on v2.6, well what i saw was a real lot of files, now which file do i download, should i download all of them? or anyone(i am new to the Linux business)or i want to know is there anyother simpler operating system(GUI) to study from.

Just keep in mind that the Linux sources are particularly hard to follow.

If what you want is a fully featured Linux distribution (graphical desktop environment and programs), you should download one from here:

http://distrowatch.com

Maybe you'll want a distribution such as Ubuntu, which I have heard to be easy to use, yet you'll have to get the sources (they should be in the installation CD's).


That's only the core of Linux. If you want simpler things to learn from, you should look for the different OSes that are being developed here and anywhere. Maybe Menuet, but as far as I know the full source code is not available and it could result less useful for learning:
