OS Beta Testing Project Idea

Post by Sliver »

Hello!

I've just read netster's article and I logged on to his/her site (http://www.netsterdesign.tk/). There is a link named Hardware, where netster is telling everyone that he/she is willing to test anyones OS on this machines.

Well, the idea is that we can build a site for OS beta testing, and there you can register as a beta tester, you include you machine details, etc. etc., and so we can help os devels to do a better job than before.

What do you think?

That is certainly a good idea!
I am not good in webdesign, but I am sure that more people would find it a good idea!

Okay!

Then I'll start to build a web site. Do not expect to finish it quite fast (although I should) cos' I'm quite busy (darn osdevel ! :] ).

This is a very good idea... Why not publish test results for operating systems, too? So for each machine, you could have a list of operating systems tested, and the results for each. OS developers could register their OS in a separate list and provide download information. Then you could have lists of, "which operating systems work on which machine" and "which machine runs which operating systems".

Sure thing!

What is yours is yours, what is mine is mine ...
I am sorry, I should do this by myself.

good luck.

Yes, Tim.

I will consider this suggestions and others, and I'll rebuild the PHP scripts that drives the site.

Thanks for the suggestion
good luck!

Hi!

I have noted your suggestions, and I added a 'Developers Report' section to OS Test Centre website. It allows developers to give details about thier OS, how did the test run, etc. You can fill that form even if you (the developer) are the tester. It is usefull for other people interested in your OS.

good luck!

Why not just get Virtual PC, you can set the options to what you want for the OS, it is much easier and you can do it yourself

because VirtualPC emulates a i386 or 486 and we want testing on current hardware. An example is the mouse under VirtualPC is ps/2, and is emulated from windows, even if you use a usb or Serial.

I recommend tring VMWare its a great PC-emulator, a LOT faster than Virtual PC.
