Antivirus: False alarm?

Hi :D

i use NOD32 Antivirus system. I've downloaded from Dex a MINIDOS operating system - cool  Altough, Dex has made a few changes to bootloader - originally from Alexei Frounze. Why? Because it had some problem with FAT file managment.

I tried to write the changed boot loader to standard diskette - hello, a antivirus pops up :D with an "probably unknown TSR.BOOT virus :D" I contacted ESET - that antivirus comapny and they said, that the problem will be repaired. BUT - I writed to the floppy a standard, unchanged Alexei's bootloader and that was OK.

I will now try, if that "TSR.BOOT" virus is "gone" :D or still in "repair" :D

P.S.: to DEX: Have you a new version of MINIDOS (in ASM)? Thanx !!

Have you met with this funky problems? :D

What part of the code did you modify?

I'm going to vote for an "antivirus" that checks it against a dozen known boot sector hashes and if it doesn't match flag it as "potentially a disastrous boot sector" - but actually, it just doesn't know.

i agree with candy:

normally, anything that changes the bootsector is bad, we OSdev'ers are the exception to the rule...

No, we're no exception to the rule. OS Dev is bad for your health! It can lead to all night coding sessions and seriously internal emotional conflict as you consider design choices - avoid at all costs!

External emotional conflicts too, if you interrupt me when I'm thinking about a complex issue, I'm not going to be happy :).
