When I set the cursor on the right place in the sceen, I use a hardware-port.
But I can access the video-memory too for setting the cursor, why does almost everybody use the hardware-port?

Hi,
I think the reason why many people use the hardware port is that the BIOS calls to print strings will then move the hardware cursor. Since a lot of people started in real-mode using these BIOS calls they simply keep on using the hardware cursor later on. (Apart from that there's really no advantage)
