PCF, PCI configuration file, what's up?

The PCI standard requires them to be available, for at least 10 years, for all compliant PCI devices. I've seen hundreds of devices claim PCI compatibility, but when I search for "PCI configuration file" on google, I get 23 hits. Most of which refer to the PCI standard themselves, some of which are to Compaq who actually appears to use it.
Do all other companies ignore it?
I checked my realtek 8169 floppy, and it didn't contain any pcf file either.

See the title of your reply for the description...
It contains the optional settings for the devices and how to apply them. Such as for instance a modifyable mac address on network cards etc. It's in the PCI standard, ch. 6.7.

May I ask which version of the PCI standard? In Version 2.2 of the PCI standard chapter 6 is about the configuration space and paragraph 7 is about Capabilities List of an PCI device. And I have never heard of PCI Configuration files, anyway...
[edit: Is the edit function in the forum working correctly... ??? I tried to remove the second [ quote ] in my post for 3times now, but it doesn't save the change]

In v2.1 and in v2.2. It's under configuration space, yes.

Yes... but..
You didn't make a complete [ quote ] header. So, it doesn't recognise it. Then it does recognise the [ /quote ] and it figures "he must've done something wrong, to make it match, lemme insert a [ quote ] in front of it so it is at least valid code".
Solution: just use the quote button and copy&paste from it if necessary.

oh, sorry for that. I found out that I actually don't have the PCI Specification V2.2, just the PCI Local Bus Specification V2.2 and I didn't realize it
or is that the right one?

That's the right one yep. Did you check whether the chapter is in it?
