want to help write the next great OS?

This operating system mainly comes from my hatred of M$. My system physically fast but, Windows is horribly slow.
I want to develope and OS that will replace Windows. A totaly new great os. This is a huge task. Thats why I need all the help I can get.
This OS should be easy to use, fast, and not use virtual memory(slow slow slow). It should be small yet powerful. Easy enough for the average person to sit down and use. Support lots of hardware. Be free. And mostly eventually come installed on computers from manufactures, the only way andyone can compete with MS.
anyway just want some help, any welcome.

Yeah... the best projects come from hatred... ?

>I want to develope and OS that will replace Windows. A totaly new great os. This is a huge task. Thats why I need all the help I can get.

Cheers man, I'm sure we all dream of writing an OS
that'll some day be famous... wether that happens
or not... another story entirely :)

>This OS should be easy to use, fast, and not use virtual memory(slow slow slow).

Good luck with that! You do realize that not one
modern operating system in widespread use today
doesn't use virtual memory, right? There's a
reason for that.

How do you plan on having an OS which can multitask
many programs, without having a 2GB memory requirement?

True, 'doze's virtual memory is slow. That's mostly
due to the fact that 'doze can't multitask disk
writes worth crap.

I don't think you want to eliminate virtual
memory, dude... you just want to make it faster.

>It should be small yet powerful. Easy enough for the average person to sit down and use. Support lots of hardware. Be free.

Purple, yet blue... spotted, but striped :)
All great aspects of an OS, for sure... but you're
right... it's a huge task.

>And mostly eventually come installed on computers from manufactures, the only way andyone can compete with MS.

This'll be the biggest accomplishment yet. Again, I
wish you the best of luck... but it's taken Linux
the better part of a decade to get even a quarter
share of only the server market.

Hmm... I don't want to disillusion anyone, but
when you go up against a software giant like
microsoft with a crew of 1 to 25, you're chances
of winning are pretty slim.

Look at the BeOS... it no longer exists.
and QNX is technologically superior to 'doze, and
most people haven't even heard of it.

Everybody needs a devil's advocate, right... ?

Glad to hear that you are on the right side of the source.
The main problem is that the every-day-user won't change their os,
they don't want to change because:
1: They are brainwashed by Bill "Devil" Gates (666 after the ASCII table)
2: They don't understand how operating systems work.
3: There program only works width Win32.

The best advice I can give is to work together with the ReactOS team.
To get the every-day-user to change, you first need an Win32 compatible OS
that are free, and stable. After that you need to do a distribution with that OS.

Wow, I'l be glad to see this OS after you do it,
cause I hate MS Shits, but I think your OS can't be
done by one person, so work in group

Why aren't there a billion of very fast OS without Virtual Memory if it's so easy? Just sit down and write an OS...

thats about 30 years of hard work.

hehe he's ambitious, but he will loose his motivation, like many who have before. Try joining another OS like SkyOS its fairly advanced, and you'll see results in this lifetime :) (Microsoft still sucks though)

if you want an example of an os ambition like yours try going to http://www.owpcentral.com they kept saying that they were comming back, over and over, but alas... nothing... even the website's gone
