I lost two posts today because the forum told me "session timeout" - 5 minutes or something... someone must have reduced the timeouts here...

Since the forum doesn't preserve what I typed, and neither does the browser I (have to) use, that's a bloody nuisance...

I'll bugger df about it via PM, but I thought I'd warn you lot: If you write lengthy posts, save your work before hitting "Post"...

Well, with the barrage of post I've been doing lately (you and I) I had to cut and paste into a word processor anyhow...but I would be very annoyed if I just wrote one of those posts we've had and lost the whole thing do to a time-out...

If by "the browser you have to use" you mean Internet Explorer on MSWindows (It's inability to remember textbox contents on back/forward is an incredibly painful), if you have a USB flash disk you can use the "portable" version of Firefox.

By "the browser I have to use" I mean that I am not at liberty to install software on my office PC. (Which is a pretty ridiculous limitation for someone writing software.) I'm already risking my job surfing this board during office hours, I won't make it worse by fiddling with the system.

Portable Firefox doesn't require installation, it shouldn't leave a trace on the system. Just a suggestion, but they shouldn't be able to tell the difference at the router without actually looking at the screen.

Don't be so sure ... every browser usually announce the "user-agent: ..." in every HTTP request, so i could design an applicative filter that would block a given browser if i'm the one responsible of a big and powerful browser (but honnestly, i don't see why i would block *mozilla* )

And add to that that our machines are elderly boxen running WinNT (no USB), and have the CD-ROMs disabled.

No game.

Anyways, I'm not looking for a replacement browser. The timeout of the forum shouldn't be as tight as it seems to be.
