Question about which tools to use, bugs, the best way to implement a function, etc should go here. Don't forget to see if your question is answered in the wiki first! When in doubt post here.
Windows is the reason for the popularity of the internet today. and you can thank them for all those hi-tech jobs available today that were born from the internet boom.
Before I explain that, it sickens me to see you all skipping the facts and adding small things. I still have no answer on the explorer court case. YOU KNOW IF YOU START AN ARGUMENT THERE, YOU WILL LOSE. So I see the weaklings pick little things in which they can get a little hope.
About the top, Bill Gates takes over industries which have much money. IF YOU SAY THAT IS THE LIE, look at the XBox, a tactic to spread to gaming industries.
Stop bringing up new points, and answer the things I have already stated. It is easy to keep an argument going if you keep arguing over a new thing and ignoring the last argument.

This is true. However, Microsoft is a company, and all companies are out there for money. If Apple or Sun or any other company was nearly as successful as Microsoft, they would expand into other markets as well. Microsoft has slowing growth in the PC market because a majority of desktops already run Windows. Therefore they need another source of revenue to sustain themselves - I don't see anything wrong with this in itself. What I do see wrong is how Microsoft tends to wipe out nearly all competition in the market entirely. Unfortunately, if any other company were in Microsoft's shoes, they would likely do the same thing. Don't be fooled into thinking that people will compete nice and fair if they don't have to. Face it- the primary motivation for entrepreneurs is typically to earn cash, however they can.
1) Stop shouting.
2) Your personal grievances against Bill Gates or his company's business practices have no place here. If you don't start discussing OS development, or critiquing Windows on a technical level, I will delete your posts.
TECHNICAL LEVEL!! Tell them first to stick to tech. Slacker started talking about jobs, so I had to answer him.
Thanks for letting this forum go. OSdevers need to know that making something and selling it ain't the way.
And finally, sticking to tech: I discussed all the tech stuff. All the rest to do is to help the others get it into their heads. And if you ask me to explain how Windows works, that will be asking me to do an illegal act (disassembling Windows). So I think the forum ends here. If it is gonna be an mod. that closes this topic, it's gonna have to be df or Pype (Someone who has not posted their opinion)
Ironic how the first thing you do is shout, when Tim just said to cease

What's wrong with selling software?

I didn't see much proof of your claims, other than your own unverifiable experiences (I for one cannot seem to reproduce them) with Windows, and some links to Microsoft court cases which are wandering off the subject here. This is about the operating system itself, not Microsoft.

Nobody is asking you to disassemble Windows. You just need to provide some evidence of your assertions in facts and figures, etc.

I don't see any reason why Tim shouldn't be allowed to delete your posts if he posted his opinion. Moderators attain such a status because they can be trusted not to abuse their privileges. Sure it might be unfair for a mod to delete your comment simply if he disagrees with it, but its another situation altogether to delete your posts if they are getting slightly out of hand.

STICK TO TECH TALK NULL. Check yourself.
That I shall. But first let me point out that the warning was directed to you, not me. Threatening me is not going to do you much good.
Windows is not unstable as of 2000/XP. Many people report that a lot of the crashes which plagued the 9x line are no longer a problem. Also, Windows is not necessarily insecure. The impact of Windows worms are magnified by the massive userbase Microsoft enjoys. If Linux had such a userbase, I suspect Linux (or any other OS for that matter) security flaws would be just as devastating. Also since there is a single entity directing Windows, it is more unified and consistent when compared to a fragmented Linux platform. And face it - Windows has the drivers, applications, and support on a scale which renders it a suitable choice for a wide range of areas.
Madmonky1 remarks that the Windows file system is "very unorganized." Explain how this is so?

Well, the FAT12/16/32 filesystems are very unorganized, in that they store their filenames and directory names in an unsorted list, which forces the OS to search through each sector in the list until it finds the one it needs, or if the file doesn't exist, it has to search through the whole list to see that it isn't there. It's horribly inefficient. Not to mention the kludgy way they added long filename support.
NTFS, on the other hand, is a MUCH better filesystem (I won't go into detail here).
Tux, the problem is not that any of us here have any great love of MS - after all, would we be writing our own operating systems, trying to find better ways to make things work, if we were satisfied with the status quo? Many of those here use Linux, FreeBSD, or other free systems, and even they are not satisified with what they have, for the most part. Even those of us here who are working systems as a hobby or for research, dream of better systems to come.
Nor is it that we dispute Microsoft's public record for questionable business tactics - though we might ask whether any of us would be more honorable, given the same position of industry domination (imagine what Larry Ellison might have done were he in Gates' shoes - scary thought, isn't it?).
Nor do we deny that Windows is flawed. Windows has tons of flaws. So do Linux, MacOS, BeOS, FreeBSD, etc. No one is stating that any of them is perfect. We do not expect perfect stability from any of them, or anything else in the real world. We do, however, have reasonable expectations of stability, and for some of us, at least, Windows (of whatever version is preferred) meets those expectations. Others may disagree, and many do; but arguing over it won't change the minds of those who find it suitable for their own needs. I myself use both XP and Linux, and have my grievances with both; but I still use them, and probably will still use them even long after I finish Thelema (if I ever do).
The problem is that we aren't here to discuss this nonsense. This board isn't about existing systems, or corporate corruption, or any of that. It is about the new systems we want to build ourselves, about learning how operating systems work, and why they are designed the way they are, and maybe, just maybe, finding a way to build a better mousetrap. Most of us see enough flamage and trolling in other forums, and want to leave it off of this one.
But even that isn't really what is the matter. You have made blanket statements without reference or support, insulted long time members and the moderators themselves, claimed status you clearly have no right to, and generally have made an @$$ of yourself. That is the problem. We have tolerated a great deal of ignorance, carelessness, pettiness, and fatuousness in this forum in the past, because everyone is at times ignorant, careless, petty, and foolish, and helping each other get past those things is necessary if we are to learn anything. But the one thing we cannot and will not tolerate is a troll, someone who demands our attention but gives nothing back to the forum in return.
Adjust your attitude before the moderators do it for you.
