I think we are waiting for a name to be voted on, then we are going to set something up at sourceforge. For now we have a page on the wiki called CosMain. Look for it in the list of most recently updated pages on the wiki main page.

Thor OS sounds great - with a logo that shows a hammer and a lightning...
BTW: All documentation should be in a common format and layout. I recommend LaTeX, which makes it easy to define a common layout and export to formats like PDF, PS, DVI (for TeXperts) or even HTML.

LaTeX or XML, yeah. Are there LaTeX utils for Win32? Doesn't really matter to me, I run Linux, but there are Win32 developers here.
XML/XSL can also do the conversations to any format as well. I'm more confortable with it (infact, the only LaTeX I've written has been through LyX), but at the same time, I'm not a huge fan of XML syntax (hard on the hands when you have to write 10x more then if you'd just written it in a text editor
) so perhaps LaTeX is a better choice...? What's it's syntax like? Can it be written in a text editor easily, or would be require tools?
Cheers,
Jeff
PS: as per the OS name... let's not add OS to the end of it... it adds confusion to the pronounciation, I think (and just generally doesn't sound as cool
I would suggest just adding a version to the end 'Thor One' for example.

i never heard of LaTeX so it probley wont work for me... xml works for all systems, unix, windows, linux, ect, sooo i guess that will
well about the name most people dont expect the name OS or Operating System after the word like for linux os its just linux and for windows its just windows... thats all sooo we will go with thor or something around that range...

The only problem with Thor is that its already in use,
www.thor.com and
www.thor.org are used. We may have problems using that name so we need another, more unique name.
I havn't got any suggestions yet, but I will think about it.

I thought I'd heard that name in use before.
I've always been partial to the simple names.
I like O3... whether in the O3, chemical nomenclature sense, or O3 in the mathmatical sense.
Or a spoof on the Mac's name (eg. "System 7"): Core One. Or System32 (although, that's a 'doze component
)
I've always wanted to just name and OS as OS. But then, I guess Apple's pretty much got that with their OS X, now. OS/2's taken, but there's always OS/3
or OS/32
Crystal
PolyOne - actually the name of my first OS, but it no longer exists, thanks to a severe hd failure, so the name's free, lol. I called it this in relation to Polymers... being such a vertsile substance.
Anyway, that's all I got for now... I'm at work in training, gotta go
Cheers,
Jeff

You can add me to your list. I think it's a good idea to program an os together since nobody can do such a huge project alone.
I've now been programming in C++ for 3-4 years and in (n)asm for about one.
My e-mail:
[email protected]

Daniel Raffler a.k.a gaffi
btw:
I originaly wanted to call my os styx - what you think of it ?

Flich: My e-mail's "wouter underscore demuynck at hotmail dot com" (I put it on the Wiki).
www.thor.net does not exist. Besides it hasn't be used as an OS yet. Plus this may be only a nickname for the OS.
I got some other suggestions:
Or we could use Carbon or Sillicon, to elements on which intelligent lifeforms can be based
Or Odin (which was another Norse god).
Deuterium is an isotope of hydrogen. Maybe something with that. Or Quark, which is a subatomic particle.
Also an idea is "Tomsk" (a nuclear reactor in russia -- kernel/reactor see the connection?)
But "Thor" stays my favorite...
I think will be away till about 22.00 (GMT+1)

More suggestions (all are based on the Triple O for Object Oriented Operating):
* OS/3
* OS/3 Wrap
* O<sub>3</sub>S (O3S)
* OS<sup>3</sup>
* 3OS
* Trion
