While we're at it, let's write a replacement for HTTP that's portable, casual in terms of the style of the response returned, and can be compiled into our Operating System.
I'm afraid I don't think it's a joke. I think it's the output of a very sophisticated Markov chain.
Are the only states in the markov chain "MS-DOS", "16 bit" and "real mode"?
No, I think the problem is that the Markov chain runs in 16-bit real mode under MS-DOS. There's also a "portable" version that can run under Windows 9x.
Oh god. This thread. I'm dying.
But no, dead serious, I hope somehow that ~ is just a troll bot. Because if not, from everything I've read it feels like it's someone with some possible mental health issues. And that makes me kind of sad.

I don't understand.
That's OK, it is clear that ~ doesn't either. He has no idea what he's talking about, and is a crank comparable to
TempleOS,
Gavino_Learning,
Busco Quadnary, or
SpectateSwamp. Like Swampy and Busco in particular, he's got a particular (wrong) idea in his head about How Things Work, and won't listen to any information contrary to his delusion.

For what it's worth, at least Terry has produced something complex, functional, and... well. Interesting. Mental health is a fascinating and terrifying pandora's box.
On the flipside, it's pretty obvious that ~ has no clue what he's doing but is zealously convinced that he does.
Or, you know. The Markov chain thing. I'm just going to keep believing that. It makes my life way more interesting and way less depressing.

I just wish archive.org would disable the Markov chain's account, though. It disappoints me to see such a valuable resource being abused so badly.
