Hi!I`m 12 and I`m doing some OS Dev in Assembler. I know. So many people say developing an OS in Assembler that can do more than DOS is impossible. But I like ASM. What are your opinions about ASM in OS Dev?

This is certainly a pointless discussion. Whether you are skilled or not, is a matter of whom you compare yourself with. I've meet "genius" teenagers that were great because they compared their skills with those of their grandmothers. I've also met truly skilled programmers that compare themselves with e.g. Alan Cox and consider their own skills nearly worthless.
What I've learnt from this, is that one should never judge a programmer from what he says, but from what he produces. I agree with kataklinger in a lot of what he says and bragging about your skills won't prove anything. Give us some references to what you've made and leave up to us to decide whether you are great/genius whatever.

I agree with talin. Im the best programmer in my school, probably my town. Pretty bowl statement huh? But thats because I live in a dirt bowl in country south australia, where most people can't even spell computer. Take a shot at it KidProgrammer, but don't expect to get wealthy off it in a few years. Learn about OS's for the joy of learning something new, not to make money.

Ohh and BTW, I read an article about a month ago, which said it takes about 10 years to be good at something. This includes anything from programming to painting to music composition. Sure Michalangelo was a brilliant artist, but did he paint the 6th (or whatever number it was) chapel in his first month? I think not.
PS: I don't have the articles link, but search on google.

First, read 'Get Some Things Straight'on this topic. Then Return.
Second, the '10 years' statement is untrue; I will not deny a very good bit of my non web programming skills, but I am tortously awesome with Web Design. That, to everyone here, is probably very easy, but I am better than most adult web programmers, if I spend some good hours on coding a website. If I ever do start my web portal, and the MB aren't password protected here, I will post the address. If not, with a bit of luck, and after huge success with my portal, I might by OS DEV-----I will keep it quality, mind you, and employ great keepers for this site. I can not post my code for my (local) web portal, because it is not registered with the Library of Congress. You may be reading hte works of the founder of the next Y-h-o! or G-o-l-. I blocked the text, because i don't want to get in trouble with advertising.
Third, thanks for all the comments, and newcomers to this topic, please post your opinion!
Fourth, include all your sayso in one message, I am sure Chase doesn't want his web space wasted.

OK! You are better programmer then God. So we must believe you (even if we haven't seen anything of your code yet) or if do not we will be sinners.
And you are porbably writting your Bible in Notepad far beyond 64k limit.
OS_DEV != WEB_DEV
P.S.
OH MY LORD PLEASE DON'T KILL ME I WONT TO LIVE.
OOOOO I BELIEVE NOW. YOU ARE MY MASTER. YOU ARE THE MASTER OF THIS WORLD.

Kataklinger, to put down god is pure evil. What you have done by writing this message should be very shameful, and beg for gods forgiveness. I may be a kid, but I am raised right, and what you have said is evil. f you are the developer of 'Sky OS' than I am sorry for posting this; that is by far the most impressive of the OSDEV ring's projects, but posting this is still evil. I rebuke your sin from this computer.

Oh, I know more than you want me to, if that makes a bit of sense at all. And by the way, when do you go to sleep? You reply in a wide variety of times. Got to go; its late (Actually, its 1:25 in the morning, but I took a nap, and it doesn't matter anyway; my parents do a bit of spoiling; I don't let it, as well as them, go to far though.

I was 7 years old when I started programming. I learned more than 28 different programming languages and came up with 3 of my own (w/ compilers). I think that you can create a simple DOS-like OS but it would be very hard to create something like Linus Torvalds or B*** G**** (he bought MS-DOS from a couple of kids who made it in their garage) did because many people have tried this but only a very select few have prevailed. The 'M' company will eventually shut itself down
so you don't want to be like them. Keep up the good work and don't let your dreams die.
