yes there is -- unless you have a very old revision (my old copy has it also -- i just checked), or they took it out of the latest revision

(page numbers are for revision 12/16US)

9 PROCESSOR MANAGEMENT AND INITIALIZATION (9-1/9-1)
9.1 INITIALIZATION OVERVIEW (9-1/9-1)
9.1.1 Processor State After Reset (9-2/9-2)
9.1.2 Processor Built-In Self Test (BIST) (9-2/9-2)
9.1.3 Model and Stepping Information (9-5/9-5)
9.1.4 First Instruction Executed (9-6/9-6)
9.2 X87 FPU INITIALIZATION (9-6/9-6)
9.2.1 C...

so both of my hard-copies have it (im waiting for the new ones to become availible and then ill get updated ones, but i very much doubt they will be any different) -- look at the top of page 9-6

i know where it can be downloaded, i said im waiting for hard-copies to become availible (there on the same page, but there not availible right now since they are currently in an update cycle) ... well actually my bookmark is directly to the download page, not the P4 master page

so do you mean (by that reference to the location of the new manuals) that they took that whole section out of the more recent revisions? because you said that in your copy, there was no subsections under section 9.1... thats strange

It's still there, Volume 3A, section 9.1.4.

Downloaded fresh copy from the above link about 35 seconds ago. ;)
