Is it OK to link from the Wiki to ancient threads which covers a topic nicely? (fearing they may end up getting bumped, intentionally or accidentally)

(any thread linked from anywhere will eventually become ancient (or kept in perpetual flame, which is even worse))

No problem there. In fact we're all dreaming about some enlightened soul digging through all those old threads pointing out those with good information so we can forward them to the Wiki...

That's actually a thing i do frequently. New-comers might indeed bump such threads, which wouldn't be such a bad thing. Plus, nothing prevent us (the mods) to split and keep the referenced thread "clean" if needed.

Other users that worry about "keeping threads clean" are suggested to start a new thread carrying a reference to the "pointed from the wiki" thread (so that we still know what they're referring to, of course :P )

Any chance of the OS Development FAQ getting a new theme for the wiki? I must say, it has some great information, but is one of the most unstylish things I've seen in a while ::).

what do you mean by style? what need is there for that?

I think it looks Just Fine (tm) - plain text, default colors, fonts and sizes. Easy to read.

@zloba: It looks okay. It wouldn't hurt for it to look just a little prettier, in my opinion - while still keeping the readability, etc.

Oh well, it was just a suggestion... maybe a downloadable version could have a nicer theme?

df is the one who could change the theme of the Wiki, and I don't think he feels like it. (df, if I'm wrong, find $(HTDOCS)/osfaq2/config/config.ini, comment out THEME = default, and uncomment e.g. THEME = MacOSX - which looks quite neat I think.)

And as for the downloadable version having a different theme than the main version, that'd about triple the work for those of us providing the downloadable versions...

Ah, excellent reasons: Compatibility, bandwidth, and ugliness. ;D

The MacOS X theme is very nice. Its still very readable, and it doesn't seem any slower to me.

Just one question, why does it use the default theme when I go to http://www.osdev.org/osfaq2, but all the pages are in the OSX theme? Then why is the theme applied to the home page only after you click something eles, and then return to the home page?

Does it? ;)

Seems to be fixed. Excellent work, df, and my dearest thanks for your hosting of the OS FAQ and this forum! That's being said much too seldom...

When I click the banner at the top of the forum, it is the default theme. When I click the "PHP Wiki" logo in the corner, it appears as the OSX theme. The grub page doesn't seem to ever have the theme applied to it.
