chrisa128, I boot my kernelthing from floppy using bochs 2.0.2 upon a w2k-machine/sp2.
Here is an excerpt of my bochsrc.bxrc-settings. May be it is of help for you:
[tt]megs: 32
# filename of ROM images
romimage: file=$BXSHARE/BIOS-bochs-latest, address=0xf0000
vgaromimage: $BXSHARE/VGABIOS-elpin-2.40
# what disk images will be used
floppya: 1_44=a:, status=inserted
# choose the boot disk.
boot: a
[/tt]
stay safe
