is this a kind of virtualization software ?

Obviously it would be somewhere in winlogon.exe, so that narrows it down. Once the resources are extracted and the binary is all that's left, that should be, say, 50 KB or so. With a copy of Windows Internals and a six-pack of cola in hand, you'll have it cracked within five or six hours.
