SimpleFS (SFS progress?)

Question about which tools to use, bugs, the best way to implement a function, etc should go here. Don't forget to see if your question is answered in the wiki first! When in doubt post here.

@brynet-inc: Just watch your words, will you? Cease having a go at others who decide to use something different, ok? Being respectful has naught to do with insisting on the own opinion. YOu can issue your opinions in a well formed and polite manner! Stay safe!

OT:

Before I started hobby OS dev I had only ever programmed in high level Windows-based languages. I expected to get a grilling when I was first asking questions about OS development - it takes a while to get used to developping software for a 'blank canvas' system when you are used to having so many pre-written libraries at you disposal.

Reading the forums and Wiki here, I was pleasantly surprised to see how people who use one OS/Language try to give out help to people devving on another OS/Language.

Hope it stays that way - don't want relative newbies like myself to stop asking because they think they will get flamed over their choice of development environment.

Cheers,
Adam

I don't want to continue this flaming, but I have to ask you why you are here if BSD is so great?

I was originally looking for documents on writing a hobby Operating System, but I later decided to write supporting code for other developers.

I have to say that I did not expect all the members here who I respected to react in this way, I was not looking for a reply from Combuster and I was not interested in his work. Brendon's opinions about BSD and UNIX-like systems disgust me and anyone who has those opinions is seriously suffering from some sort of mental illness.

I have no desire to issue my opinions in a well formed and polite manner, I find it repulsive to know how many people use the Microsoft Windows operating system and how it opened the door for complete idiots to use Computers.

It would seem a large majority of the users here have bizarre Guiding morals and clearly mine conflict, I refuse to sit back and listen to the millions of morons who used Windows all their lives join and ask silly questions, If I see something I don't like you can be damn sure I'll express my opinions where I deam necessary

Now.. I'm off to make some breakfast.. The heck with SFS then

For your information, there are real laws that disallow people to straightforwardly insult people in public, even if its someones own opinion.
Freedom of speech is NOT freedom of insults.

@brynet-inc:
Oh, well, have it your way then.
Do not count with my ... involvement ... in any of your affairs.
I refuse to communicate with people who are that inpolite and gruffy.
I do want you not to meddle with my affairs and to keep out of my way. I do take offense on what you issue here.

Have a nice day.

You must not comment on this. Ah, and don't choke on your breakfast.

ps:

meh, I am working with MS Windows and it isn't that bad to bash on it with such brainwashed methods. I also work with Linux/Unix, so what?
Heck, this lad in all earnest tries to drive me nuts.

@combuster: sorry for me being angry. This is not directed towards you. If you like so, I shall remove this.

There is no need to argue about this. It's like infinitie loop. There is no right or wrong side. Those OSes are intended for different things.Windows is user oriented, and has a powerfull GUI.UNIX is intended for programming and has a well documented API.They complement each other.

Somebody told once: "UNIX is everything that Windows is not, and vice-versa".

According to me I like and use FreeBSD almost all the time, but when it come to writing a word or exel or powerpoint file or playing a game or usng some CAD program like AutoCAD, etc. i prefer Windows.

You can use both OSes for programming and can create very powerfull programs on both.

Ok, so you dislike VB and don't want to use his source. But what is this about UNIX systems? I'm personally more "disgusted" about them then I am about Windows. Only thing good about linux is that its open source. ;)

Now, don't let these small diffrences in opinion stop you from using SFS! We all think diffrently, and the only thing i'm reacting towards is your aggresive way of putting things.

Oh, and btw: Happy birthday! :D

HAHAHHA. god... you're like the white supremacist of operating systems.

Seriously, exactly WHY is windows so bad in your opinion. Do you have real reasons? You cant really use the BSOD argument these days, My windows box is pretty much just as stable as any *nix box i have.

I think you are just riding the wave of being anti MS. Dont worry, i was there once too...then i turned 16.

So what if you dont like VB. someone was kind enough to offer you an implementation, so dont be an elitist and just take a look at it, and get a general idea of its workings. not a big deal.
