486/Pentium emulator

Post by Asphxyia »

Anyone know of any good 486 or Pentium (preferably Pentium) emulators that run with a good level of accuracy that I could use while writting my kernel. I'll be away from my desktops for a while and will only have access to my laptop but want to keep working on the kernel. Currently I'm considering using Bochs 2.1 but I'm wondering if there are any better alternatives...

I think Bochs is the best one..
About your name, how come you call yourself Asphyxia?
Are/where you a member of the demo group Asphyxia?

I absolutely agree with Christoffer. Bochs is no doubt the best IA-32 emulator for developing an OS kernel. It is AFAIK the only (free) emulator with a well-done debugger.

Thanks. No I'm not and never was a member of the ASPHYXIA demo group. I was at one point in touch with chris grant (Denthor of ASPHYXIA) but haven't been able to reach him since his move to South Africa. Asphyxia was the name of the first game I ever wrote myself, at that time I just went by my first name "Raudaun". I bragged about the game so much people started calling me Asphyxia and I've mainly gone by that name ever since. My other names on the net are/have been TheEmul8r, IYS, 13BeastREW, and XB 13BeastREW
