Well, i started reading about what an OS is.But then i needed an OS to lookup and learn from. When i visited sourceforge.net, i really didnt all the files needed to get Syllable, i heard about CVS.Though i have written a lot of application programs, i wan to write a good deal of system software too. Its true thaat i donot have conisderable knowloedge about CVS or the commandline.
The main idea of this message is that i woudl really, i mean really greatful if you could tell me how do i checkout Syllable from TortoiseCVS coz when i typed the command i didnt get it quite right.

Well sorry for the nagging and thanks in advance

You really must have a look at this.Plese read it carfully.http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Tell us what have you done untill now. What error messages you encountered while trying to get Syllable. What have you done to fix the problem.Did you read the CVS documentation.
When I serched the site I found this "The source for Syllable is available via anonymous CVS. To checkout Syllable from CVS, enter the following:
cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/syllable checkout syllable" when I copy and paste the command It started downloading the syllable.

It's obvious this person is a Windows user...

Use TortoiseCVS... It's a non-commandline CVS frontend that's apparently recommended for troglodytes like you..

http://www.tortoisecvs.org/

And next time.. start "googling" instead of posting the same topic a billion times... "Press Reply"...

That was the funniest post I have ever read. It reminds me of what I want to say sometimes, but.. it is not the right way to do it. He is probably going to rip the cords out of his computer and chunk it out a window like on those silly commercials.

OSDevver, please do not open any more threads on your inability to handle CVS. This one and the other one should be enough.

From the third thread (which I deleted), named "Problems handling TortoiseCVS to check out Syllable":
Original by OSDevver:

First i made a folder called Syllable on my desktop, then i right-clicked on the folder a clicked on 'CVS checkout' in the popup menu, then i typed my command in the CVSROOT text box, then the 'port' field is left blank, so therefore i cant' go further in my installation.
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

I strongly suggest you forget about Syllable and OS development for a while and learn some of the basics first (like, what are tools commonly used in development by hundreds of thousands of people without problems, how do I use them, how do I read a manual, and how do I use an internet forum without getting everybody annoyed).
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.
