Re:Project Recruitment
congrats for having your project registered at SF ...
However, i hope you realise we're _all_ here working on our own OS and that for _all_ of us, additionnal coders would be welcome.
By personnal experience, team-working over the Internet on the basis of a kernel is very frustrating... only when your kernel is mature enough to offer a "solid" programming environment and when requested tasks can be carried by a "standalone coder" (e.g. i had whyme_t writing a NE2K ethernet driver and porting SANiK's PS/2 mouse driver) ... 2 or 3 other people at MT has offered temporary help
Not mentionning the dozen of people that once sent me a mail saying "wow. great project! how can i join ?" ... and who finally never replied to the mail explaining that AC'97, VBE or ATAPI support would be welcome or that i was open to other suggestions
Anyone else here had succesful experience of Osdeving altogether ? Are you working alone or do you have friends IRL assisting you ?

Re:Project Recruitment
All of MGOS3 has been deved by myself, i have used SF.net for other projects, i find developing over sf.net is fine, it works as long as people carry out their givin tasks and only their given tasks...
Re:Project Recruitment
Team Dex4u, was formed about 18 months ago, out of frustration with another OS dev team, so the frustrated members got together to form "Team Dex4u", 5 in number, each has played there part in the development of Dex4uOS, more members have been added to the Dev team.
I think for this to work you need to value each member contributions, one of original members, did not know how to program, but was given the job of looking after the forum etc, this same member can now run rings round me in web programing.
For success you need the following:
1. A strong idea of what the OS is for.
2. A strong idea, of the goals needed to achieve, the end OS.
3. Someone in over all control, to give the final yes or no, to any split decisions.
I think one of the main reasons why teams fail, is that the overall goal is just too big, like i want to make a OS thats better than windows or linux or i want to make a OS that can run both linux and windows programs.
Start small and work your way through, windows started with dos not XP.
PS: All the original members, are still active members of the Dev team, this has encouraged over member to join.

@ Dex4u:
Fine that it worked for you. Pype here can tell you how legendary other "team projects" failed. Oh, and after 18 months I, too, still believed Pro-POS would be a success.

Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

Re:Project Recruitment
pro-pos and dex4u are very different in philosophy, as far as i can tell ...
i mean, i've not been straight in the details of Dex4u, but usually, when you state "let's make it 100% ASM so that it's damn' fast", you get a more easily a motivated team around you than when you say "it should be portable, and we don't want to be bothered about legacy. We want it perfect -- no excuse".
anyone else ?

Re:Project Recruitment
I will just add one thing, the days when a Dev team leader, gets a 100 emails a day are well gone. And if you did it would only be spam.
Note: The 100 emails a day, was a quote i read on the old v2os site, that was in 1999, if i remember right.
PS: I know enough about programming, to know that Dex4u with every other thing being the same as it is now, but programmed in C would be just as fast, if not faster.

Re:Project Recruitment
Even well established OS projects, can go wrong.
The closure of the Menuet32 part of the MenuetOS forum, is a case in point .
