I need an OS name...

Post by jim shorts »

I have a pretty good idea of what I want my OS to be like (not saying anything yet, lest everyone steals my ideas). But I need a name... something cool sounding. Any ideas?

Again with the damn name questions...

It's simple: Make it work, name it later. If you want a placeholding name then try your own name followed by "OS".

There was a previous thread about this, try a search.

I always came along quite well with 'my last OS', 'my current OS' and the like... :D I did not yet feel a need for a decent name.

cheers Joe

Dude, honnestly, do you expect _us_ to find a _cool_ name for an OS we know nothing about ??

* we have no idea what "cool" might mean to you ... Does "squaxz" sound cool ? fine. take "squaxz".
* we have no idea what name could be reflecting your internal design (modulos/morphix/qnx-neutrino), your targetted audience, etc.
* we have certainly no knowledge of an exhaustive list of names not to be used.

The best you could get from here is
- a random list of how (other) people picked up their names
- a couple of "what about XYZ ? Nah. XYZ is already used for ABC".

Take a dictionnary or a scrabble game or a couple of friends ... they'll be more helpful that we could ever be in that field ...

You might notice that we have detailed a lot of designs in the "Your OS design" thread, as well as numerous specifics in each subthread. None of those ideas have been stolen (and if they were, who's stopping you from implementing it, and why would yours be less good?). Why would yours be stolen?

Note, this is not like a patent thing. In patents (US) you apparently have to create something and then patent it as the first. This is the place where you don't have to, this is kind of prior art.

Quartzkottl OS? *bleh*

any name is as good as the other as long as you don't have something to show.

Names are the very last thing one thinks about when doing the osdev thing.
... the osdever formerly known as beyond infinity ...

I would design the packaging and merchandise later. Yet, I don't really expect that ever to happen :)
