Hi All,
Today COBOS booted for the first time. For whom is wondering about COBOS a little more info. COBOS stands for COntent Based Operating System. Though COmponent Based and COmputing Based will also apply when i've finished It will be a 64-bit OS designed solely at this point for AMD Opteron as this will be the platform i'm purchasing really soon. Im not planning any 32-bit support so COBOS will be running purely in longmode and support multi-chip & multi-core.
Currently it only boots to a vga 90x60 text mode and display some information but this is already 64-bit code. As of yet no IDT, TSS but i'll start with detecting/utalizing ACPI (thanx Brendan).
So i hope i can share the 64-bit experience with you and get some help when required (ofcourse i will try to return the favor).
Here is a bochs screen shot with x86_64 enabled with 4 processors.
Greets,
Rene
