Hello,
I want to try MINIX before installing it on the HDD. So, I would like to know if there's a way of making an HDD image containing MINIX that I could use with Bochs without installing MINIX on the HDD first.
I've found some existing images for Solaris and MacOS but not for MS-DOS/Windows.
Thanks for any help.
MINIX HDD Image for MS-DOS/Windows

Just make a blank HD image and install Minix to it inside Bochs. It's really not complicated.

indeed, but it can be pretty slow ...Curufir wrote: Just make a blank HD image and install Minix to it inside Bochs. It's really not complicated.
What i'm not sure i fully understand is that you said you found "disk images for solaris and MacOS" ... An image is an image, right ? that's just a bunch of bytes mirrorring the content of a disk at some time ... how could that be "solaris-specific" or "macOS-specific" ??
Or maybe what you meant is that you found images of minix on PowerPC or Sparc systems, but not minix-for-pentium-compatibles ?

Actually I tried it out and it took about 5 minutes (Including swapping virtual floppies). The Minix base isn't actually all that big.
Further exploration gave me this:

Which contains a link to a nice Minix 2.0.4 disk image.

there is a minix-sparc version that you can run on solaris with a 'minix emulator' or something (from memory....)
