Old OSes

Post by ManOfSteel »

Hello,
Does someone know where I can download old versions of OSes like UNIX, Amiga OS and OS2 and in the case it is impossible, I would like to have some screen shots of these as well as other old OSes.
Thanks for any help.

I think all three are still covered by copyright; I know for sure AmigaOS is. If you find a downloadable AmigaOS, you're looking at a pirate copy, since AmigaOS is still maintained.

You could check out AROS, which is basically AmigaOS re-engineered for x86. (And OpenSource, too. And boy that's a nice kitten mascott... ;) )

I don't think screenshots can catch much of what's "in" an OS; but here goes.

Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

SCO have released the source code to old versions of UNIX for non-commercial use. You can find it at

Also for different up-to-date implementations of Unix you could just look at:-

OpenBSD
FreeBSD
NetBSD
Linux
Minix (not really maintained)

And if you want to see an open-source attempt at windows then look up ReactOS. BeOS is currently being rewritten as an open-source OS (can't remember where- use google)

Note that certain (bearded) elements within the FSF consider a work done after being inspired by a similar GPL'ed work as "derived work", claiming it must be also GPLed.

I, too, believe that's nonsense. Just take note.

The name is "Haiku" now.

One of several BeOS related operating systems. See http://www.beunited.org/ for more info and links.
