Neat! I like learning about old operating systems and GUIs. Just for reference, Windows 3.1 and older are not actual OSs but instead a GUI that uses MS-DOS to run, or at least boot the GUI into protected mode. This last part is a mistery to me though.

actually, windows 1.0 was *not* an OS (for instance, it was completely dependent upon DOS for file access), but rather a graphical shell.

I would strongly recommend the moderators to delete that link!

Unless I seriously misinterpret it, that's basically a warez site...

It?s no law that you can not link to a site, or? It?s not our responibility if the site is legal or not + that i think that windows 1.0 is free nowdays..

And about that OS ****, did you read my PS at the bottom?
I _know_ it is not a OS. It is more like a ugly DOS shell..

ehm... it also offers Win98, judging by the package size, a full edition. That's not legal.

Actually, I know for sure it is grounds for a lawsuit in Germany, and I am pretty sure it also is in the US and several other countries.

By linking that site, you are basically making illegal material "available".

I would be very surprised if it were; AFAIK Microsoft has never released any IP...

We're not talking about fault here, we're talking about responsibility. If that site wants to offer warez, it may (at least, until somebody reports it to ms). Still, if somebody offers kiddie porn, and you link to it, don't you think that there are lots of judges that will find you guilty? You help other people get easy access to illegal material. You're like the middle man, selling the stolen VCRs to people that "dont know it was stolen", from the people that steal it. You'd be as guilty as sin.

Still, since nobody can actually link you to the placing of that link, the people that operate this message board are going to be held responsible. Their board links there, and it's their responsibility to not do that. So, to save DF & the crew some trouble, don't link to those sites. They only mean trouble.
