ppl say that OSdev is most painful and most rewarding project in computer science.
I agree that it is one of most if not the most difficult project.
But how can it be most rewarding cuz mostly you don't get any finacial benefits from it.
How can u defend that OSdev is most rewarding project as everyone needs money to survive. Why not put all
efforts in such a project which don't lead to frustration when u have to support a family.
I would also like to ask why ppl on OSdev forums are generally less than 25.
how OSdev can be most rewarding project
Re:how OSdev can be most rewarding project
Many people here are not writing their OS to live. It's more a hobby than a job...
Re:how OSdev can be most rewarding project
It's possible to write an OS and hold down a job. The rewards from an OS don't have to be (and usually aren't) financial.
Re:how OSdev can be most rewarding project
what? there are rewards?? is it like coupons or something

Take a boot floppy to Mcdonalds and they'll give you a free Extra Value Meal.
Re:how OSdev can be most rewarding project
Most (if not all) people here are not developing their OS to earn money - they do it because it is a great opportunity and a great challenge. The "reward" is not of financial kind, but more like a sort of respect. So that is meant by rewarding project.shaz wrote: How can u defend that OSdev is most rewarding project?
You already answered this question yourself: OS development is hard. It is really hard. It is really, really hard. So only few people dare to enter this project. You also have to consider that is not the only place where OS developers meet. For example, alt.os.development holds many more users (as it is sort of more design specific - this forum is helpful rather for beginners).I would also like to ask why ppl on OSdev forums are generally less than 25.
Re:how OSdev can be most rewarding project
People younger than 25 probably have more time.I would also like to ask why ppl on OSdev forums are generally less than 25
Re:how OSdev can be most rewarding project
Oups, seems as if I misunderstood the question. Well yes, you are right: most people here are quite young. I think that the older ones are automatically the more experienced ones. No 40 years old man can want to learn how to develop an OS (except if it is his job, but in this case, he would have been teached). So the experienced ones have their own discussion groups (at job perhaps) or at places like alt.os.developments. Again, this forum is more for beginners.frank wrote: People younger than 25 probably have more time.
