Updated OSDev Ring/Projects page

Post by Chase »

Thought I'd let everyone know that I've update the OSDev Ring section.
We've got 48 different projects listed now. I've had 71 added over the history of the site. That should tell you how many OS projects die off in a short span of time.

Most people just don't have the discipline or the organisation to get very far. A lot of the ones on that ring look promising, though.

71 - 48 = 23
23 / 71 = 0,324
0,324 = 32%

32% of all posted projects fails

This is exactly why I insisted on not posting my project in the list until I have real release. :)

Seems about right I will say from experience it is alot of work to organize a group of people to work an os and then keep them all interested. The UbixOS project is 14months strong and going.

Until now I've steered clear of the whole "organising a group of people" thing -- I've made more progress on The Möbius on my own than most groups have. However, I think it's come to the point where it's got big enough that if I to work on my own over the whole thing progress would get slower and slower. I think there is enough core there for me to be able to hand over bits to other people.

TheUbu: well done on remaining established so long. But how long has it been since the last rewrite? :) Mine's been about 9 months since the last partial rewrite.

Tim,

Well speaking of Möbius I've actually looked over the source and I do admit it has been done very well. Our version and rewrites have been well lets say kinda awkward we started at version 3 then went to two then one. About five weeks ago we finished our outline of how we want everything to work together and have started the complete rewrite from there. We are always looking for new idea's and members. The problem with writing and os is that everyone wants an os to do something different. So the hardest part of this experience was to find a few people all with the same ideas and oppinions to do something together. Which we have we are all for making something for the home and not having a product that tries to be something its not. I wish you luck and your welcome to join us on irc channel #ubixos on the undernet irc.undernet.org

You should be able to type 32% now. Why the heck was I escaping % signs?
