Win4Lin versus Vmware
Win4Lin versus Vmware
I am going to be switching to Linux in a week or two and I want to be able to run windows programs on Linux. I have heard of Win4Lin and vmware and was wondering which was the best.
I've also heard about Wine, but don't know how good it is. Can anybody help me out?
If you know of a site or a place where I can get a free 30 day trial version of any of these three products, I would appreciate it.

Re:Win4Lin versus Vmware
But I don't want to pay for the license so I can download and run it. Is there a free version of any of these programs.
win4Lin = 90 bucks for license
vmware = 30 day free trial and then I have to buy it.
I using windows 98SE/windows 2000

Re:Win4Lin versus Vmware
you can run win98 apps with wine (it's gpl)
there are rumors that bochs can boot a win2000, haven't tried, tho

Re:Win4Lin versus Vmware
Thanks for the help, I going to use a version of bochs for Linux.
Re:Win4Lin versus Vmware
I do know that bochs 1.4.1 can run 95, might run 98, but really can run 2000 ( done before in a picture ) ( I have 95 in bochs installed )...bochs is slow slow slow.
Re:Win4Lin versus Vmware
Thanks Tom, I will keep that in mind when I move over to Linux in a week and set up bochs.
By the way, do you know anything about grub?

Re:Win4Lin versus Vmware
Bochs is a PC emulator and VmWare virtualize a PC
The performance and possibilities are very different.
If you want working on a linux station in a window on Win2000/XP (you can reverse it), VmWare is a good choice . If you just want test your own operating system both are good but Bochs is cheaper (free ) ).
Wait for Bochs 2.0, but i think (if you have some money) that VmWare is best choice.
