max allowable # of ata controller on a PCI bus

Post by ITchimp »

According to Tanenbaum's book, max # of ata drive is 8, 4 per controller... I am wondering if there is a limit on the max number of ata controllers on a PCI bus?

No limit other than the constraints of PCI and the architecture (you will run out of I/O ports at some point).
