This is an awesome perspective which I certainly do appreciate.AltCtrlDel wrote:I think the most important thing that the open source community miss is "developing software for computer users rather than computer programmers" .. it should be at the top of their objectives to hide the unnecessary details of their products from normal users - computer programs were invented to be "programmed then used" not to be "programmed then programmed" ..

Re: The Perfect Operating System
Yikes, totally forgot about this! I've been out of the development world for quite a while now. Imagine my shock crawling the forums and seeing a topic that I created oh so long ago.
Anyway, the responses so far have been amusing. I suppose it's time to add a bit of fuel to the fire... now imagine that you ARE bound by the limits of today's hardware. That's right, now you need boot loaders and memory management and there's only so much power per computer. In this situation, what's your "perfect operating system"?
Hope to see more creative response,
Nick Small.

Re: The Perfect Operating System
The perfect OS will be voice activated. You can talk to it as if it was a human being. And it will talk back to you with a soothing airy female voice (ahhh).
And you would have no problems with sound drivers because it would be compatable with the Windows driver architecture.
It will also use winmodem software to project it's voice down the phone line. It will answer calls and act as an answering machine when you're not home. You could even ring it yourself and it will detect you by your speech patters and linguistical mannerisms. The perfect security system!
It will fit on a floppy disk so I can take it anywhere, and run it on any machine with a sound card!

Even in that case, I can just quote myself again. Well, as I am bound now ( ), I would an "as possible".Legend wrote:It would as non-technical, quick and easy in day-to-day usage like a toaster.

The perfect security system? Except that over a phone line it would be pretty easy to trick with recordings.Da_Maestro wrote:...You could even ring it yourself and it will detect you by your speech patters and linguistical mannerisms. The perfect security system!

the perfect os would know exactly what you want to do and just do it intuitively and never ever misinterpret you. it would know exactly who was allowed to use it and what they were alowed to do..
the perfect OS would change my daughters diapers, heh heh... well theres dreaming...
