Let's see there's Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Media Studio Pro. I personally like Final Cut Pro, but it's only for Mac so I'd suggest using Premiere.

You could try going to videomaker.com and reading some FAQs about videography.

Music Videos are really fun to do. Check out one I did to a Nine Inch Nails song, "Down in it". I didn't use any of the software that I mentioned though, this was back in '94 before all that stuff. If you watch it, I'm the guy with the long black hair.

and if you still have some time to kill, check out one of my short films, "House of Ninjas". (it's pretty cheesy, but don't say I didn't warn ya)

Yeah they should all have free trials for download, but if you wanted a completely free editor. There's Zwei-Stein, FadeToBlack, and ABC VideoRoll. Don't expect much from these though, they are nowhere near the quality and functionality of the commercial ones.

You will need a codec. Get one off KaZaA or something.

I dontknow if this is related...but look at my DVIX->DVD thing... I know that DVIX players use codecs... Maybe you can put your video on a DVD.

The reason that the file is so big is because it's high quality. Try using more compression, which will result in less quality. One trick is to reduce the sound quality as well. Try setting the sound to 22Khz Mono.
