Interesting information - thanks for the links. I would still contend, as we are now talking about USB stacks and the like, that OS development on the Pi is substantially more difficult than on a PC and probably not the best starting point for a beginner. I know that many people have implemented USB stacks in their OSs, but it's not exactly starter stuff is it.
