Visual C++ Runtime article

Post by Smilediver »

Hey guys, I've created new http://wiki.osdev.org/Visual_C++_Runtime article. It would be cool if those who have access to main page could add a link to it under Visual C/C++ in Tools/Compilers section.

The main pages are only protected to prevent people from doing stupid things - the content is stored elsewhere and can be edited with the regular permissions. In this case you'll probably want to edit http://wiki.osdev.org/Template:Main2/Tools

Can the protection be turned off? http://wiki.osdev.org/Expanded_Main_Page should be moved to http://wiki.osdev.org/Main_Page --- it's annoying and unprofessional to have the start page display a redirection notice.

You mentioned it just once 13 months ago, and those thirteen months proved you couldn't really be bothered.

See it from a technical viewpoint: maintaining Main Page as a link requires the least amount of updates when the choice of index page changes.

Oops, I must've missed your reply---this thread reminded me of the issue. No, I didn't make a big fuss about it as it's not really a big problem, only a bit annoying. I think "couldn't be bothered" is too strong a choice of words, though; it's not like I haven't contributed to the wiki in the meantime (and by that I don't mean the little catfight I had with Solar and you :)).

The main page doesn't change very often (it has happened only once in 11 years, AFAIK) and when it does, it's not much work to update the link.
