Acronis like interface

Hi all,

I am not interested in writting an OS but a user interfece like the one Acronis True Image shows
when booting from the CD. It will be for an embedded system.

But I think this is a small OS, isn't it? So far I have been able to make a "Hello World" kernel. So where to go from there? I can't find information regarding this matter.
