What does your OS look like? (Videos, off topic)
I like the idea of YouTube videos. Did you use an emulator and a cam recorder?

It looks like Qemu recorded with a program like fraps. No need point a camera at the screen.Love4Boobies wrote:I like the idea of YouTube videos. Did you use an emulator and a cam recorder?

I used QEMU and CamStudio under Windows. CamStudio is free and does the job. FRAPS costs $37 if you want the full version that removes the limitations of the free versions.
What screen recording software is available for Linux or Mac OS X?

No YouTube videos!
As the creator of this topic.. I request that they be removed, and the posters banned for life.
But seriously, create your own topic if you must.. or preferably just upload the videos to some free file host or some other public web space you have (..unrestricted by flash nonsense).

Well if you have a browser supporting HTML5 and have a YouTube account, you might want to try plugging in the HTML5 support on TestTube.Brynet-Inc wrote:No YouTube videos!

Other than that, video's look like a nice way to show something on your OS. Though screenshots can probably show what the shell does as well, except if you have some specific behaviour to show.
When the chance of succeeding is 99%, there is still a 50% chance of that success happening.

Put the youtube tags instead of the link, then people don't need to open another page to see the movie.ReturnInfinity wrote:How about a video?

The flashing blocks in the top left corner show CPU activity. The text in the top right show interrupt activity.
Here is your video with the youtube tags:

And instead it wastes your bandwith and bypasses the "disable flash" board setting.
I have to partially agree with Brynet-Inc - I hate that tag. Post a link if you must.

I prefer the Youtube tag, but it's all personal reasons.

If you absolutely must have a video, could it possibly be in a new thread ("What does your OS look like? (Videos)"). After all, this is supposed to be a screenshot thread, not a video thread

One could interpret a video as a series screenshots shown usually at a rate of between 24 and 60 frames per secondpcmattman wrote:If you absolutely must have a video, could it possibly be in a new thread ("What does your OS look like? Re: What does your OS look like? (Screen Shots..)
I am for the youtube video, I'd much rather see it in action, and that's how you do it. If there is a problem, just make a new thread and I'll be over there looking at your threads instead of these.
Yes, I see that you have proven it, but my question was, 'How did you know that would work?'.

No YouTube videos, embedded or otherwise.
Neither browser is available on the OS that I use, nor is Flash.
So create another topic for videos if you must, that way I won't have to read it.
The HTML5 support requires Chrome or Safari, as they require the patent encumbered h264 codec.Creature wrote:Well if you have a browser supporting HTML5 and have a YouTube account, you might want to try plugging in the HTML5 support on TestTube.

All this from a guy who claims to still use the god awful mega tokyo theme. Moreover, the fact that you do not even possess the technology to see the videos automatically disqualifies you from having an opinion on the matter. You should be otherwise neutral, yet you are not? Strange.

Not everyone is blessed with taste, clearly you've proven that.osdnlo wrote:All this from a guy who claims to still use the god awful mega tokyo theme. I'm not neutral on any subject matter, the proliferation of "de facto" proprietary and/or patented web content is a real issue.. and I'll continue to voice my opinion, regardless of whether you think I'm disqualified from doing so.
Re: What does your OS look like? (Screen Shots..)
And, I think you've proven why some people wear red sweaters with green sweat pants.
And, you can have your opinions. I just thought it was strange that you would care about a matter that does not even apply to you.
