With Christmas out the way and New Years just around the corner I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped me without even knowing it.
The forum and wiki are superb with no ads plastered all over the place and very knowledgeable moderators.
This got me thinking about who actually covers the cost of hosting? Are you able to accept donations? My post count may be low and I've registered fairly recently but I've been lurking for many years. I'm in the process of writing a tutorial to try to contribute something back.

what are you going to write about?
Thanx.

Yes it's hosted on Chase's own dedicated server. I'm not sure whether he owns it, runs it at his house, colocates it, rents a dedicated server, etc. If he does rent a dedicated server, costs (I estimate roughly) would be around $500-$750 USD/yr.

The cost breakdown is (without tax):
$50 a month for hosting ($600 per year)
$60 per year for related domains (osdev org/net/com & osdevelopment org/net/com)
And if you average in the hardware costs (buying old servers off of ebay) I think it averages out to $100-$200 a year on hardware
So somewhere between $700-$800 a year.
But don't forget the mods that spend a lot of time deleting spam and keeping the site from becoming a flame-a-thon. And there are lots of people spending time improving the wiki. As they say, time is money. I'd rather people donate time.
