Template and icon from Wikipedia

Post by Virtlink »

Combuster once informed me that no material can be copied from Wikipedia. User Alfaomega08 uploaded an image which is also on the wikipedia and made template adjustments very similar to those on wikipedia. I informed him in my posts on his talk page. What is and what isn't allowed (especially when it comes to using adjusted markup tags from a template)? And what is the normal route to follow? Discuss first, or delete/rollback first? Or let someone else handle it?

Greetings,

The icon - as Combuster already noted on the talk page - is labeled Public Domain by its author, so it's safe to re-use here.

The template is quite obviously a verbatim copy from Wikipedia, i.e. text under the GFDL (or whatever the acronym for the GNU documentation license is). That alone would be enough to have second thoughts about an inclusion. The clearer point against that edit however, is that it is Italian ("avviso-testo"). Nothing against Italians or their language, but our Wiki is English... 8)

What is the policy? If a copyright infringement is perceived, I'd say revert first, talk later, as it could result in legal troubles. The revert could be reverted any time if we get to agree that inclusion is OK (as with the icon).
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

I was going to say the same thing until my internet went offline and Solar came first. :(
