PCI Express Gfx cards use the same base standards (VGA, VESA) that other video cards do. In terms of non-Linux specific driver code, VESA drivers are basically all you are going to get that work (but there are some open graphics drivers for the newer cards on the horizon). Both ATI and Intel have released specifications to their cards, so the hackers are working on it now I guess. NVidia are still holding out, AFAIK.
