AMD PCNet Ethernet

Post by czhower »

I need to support the Ethernet card that is used in VMWare hosts. Its listed as AMD PCNet. We are already supporting RTL8139 and such common ones.

I can only find minimal info so far on AMD PCNET i.e compatibility lists:
http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/2. ... erlist.php

I'll check each of these, but does anyone have any pointers to documentation on this chipset?

AMD is fairly decent about documentation, search for the following on this page:

Am79C970A - PCnet PCI II Single-Chip Full-Duplex Ethernet Controller for PCI Local Bus
Am79C971 - PCnet-FAST Single-Chip Full-Duplex 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Controller for PCI Local Bus
Am79C972 - Part 1- PCnetâ„¢-FAST+ Enhanced 10/100 Mbps PCI Ethernet Controller with OnNow Support
Am79C972 - Part 2- PCnetâ„¢-FAST+ Enhanced 10/100 Mbps PCI Ethernet Controller with OnNow Support
Am79C973/Am79C975 - PCnetâ„¢-FAST I I I Single-Chip 10/100 Mbps PCI Ethernet Controller with Integrated PHY
Am79C976 - PCnet-PROâ„¢ 10/100 Mbps PCI Ethernet Controller
Am79C978 - PCnet-Home Single-Chip 1/10 Mbps PCI Home Networking Controller

Looks like there are quite a few "PCnet" chipsets..

I would just like to add that this is the specific one VMWare use in 32-bit mode.
