You know, M$ bashing is *so* of the past. But really, why on earth would AMD opening up specs be bad for M$? Do you really think the world is going to flock to Linux now? That seems rather stupid.

lmao. Do you really think that this is going to have any significant impact on MicroSoft? Their DX & GFX API is quite secure, and I think they know that. People aren't going to instantly start using OS drivers because AMD released some specs.

Linux has OpenGL instead of DirectX, which is working quite well. As I understand it (and I'm not an expert), it doesn't really matter which technology one supports for the end result. Also, as long as the video card manufacturers supply decent drivers for Linux, it doesn't matter at all whether these are open or closed source. I admit Ati's drivers were kinda crappy, but nVidia's are pretty decent.

That's a very good point. I'm all for open specifications, so us hobbyists can profit. However, the post I was replying to stated that M$ would find it not ammusing that AMD released the specs, and I merely said that M$ would not in the slightest have any problem with it, as it does not concern then in any way. And I doubt whether M$ will lie awake from your OS either :).
If theoretically my OS was as popular as Windows or Linux, and I could provide all the tools needed to write a driver for it, would the hardware manufacturers support it or is there more to it than just popularity? Maybe money... I'm thinking way out of my league here, but bare with me.
