cd usage and image making

Post by suthers »

i am booting my OS of a cd instead of a floppy.
Firstly I would like to ask if i get the boot drive number of the dl reg when i boot can i use the same way as floppies to load stuff of my cd?
Secondly i would like to ask i do i lash my kernel code onto the end of the image i tried to use partcopy to copy them onto a virtual floppy, but partcopy keeps saying that it cant find the source file whatever i do...
Thanks in advance,
Jules

This has been posted countless times... is searching the forum really that hard? ;)

According to the specification, if no emulation is used.. drive numbers will be unaffected, so DL is probably undefined.

1) If you're using floppy emulation, Your CD-ROM will become drive 00.... additional drives will be incremented by 1.
2) If you're using hard drive emulation, Your CD-ROM will become drive 80.. additional drives will be incremented by 1.
