Erm, isn't it \\.\a: (or "\\\\.\\a:" in string form)?

Also, you need NT,2k,XP unfortunately, and possibly (some) admin priliages? But then you can use ReadFile(), WriteFile(), etc, which is an excellent way of doing it, and makes it nice & easy to make image-based programmes.
