Wiki's Ext2 page

Post by B.E »

I'm currently writing a more in depth page on the file system. Because, ext2 is contains a lot more features, and attributes, that other filesystem don't have (i.e FAT), this may take some time.

I'm considering adding the a list of fields withing the filesystem's data structures. Would it be wise to put such information in the page?

EDIT: Also because, UFS and Ext2/3 are similar in structure. Once I've finished with this I plan to add information regarding this file system.

Providing detailed Wiki articles on ext2/3 and UFS is a great idea!

Good luck :)

Maybe a generic Berkley FFS/UFS/EXT2 overview page going over the basics of super blocks, inodes, cylinder groups, directory structure, etc would be a good idea. Then we could have a detailed analysis page for each implementation.

I've update the page with my new version, It's still a work in progress. I still need to elaborate on directories (both versions), and provide captions to data structures, and add the directory data structures.

Edit: is there any thing that needs to be fixed or is it the best thing you have ever read?

Other than being rather incomplete it looks very good.

Wow, thanks, I've been putting off writing a simple read-only driver for a while, but the guide as of right now is more than enough to get me started.

Thanks, again. :)
