Heh... seems I already wrote my part on the subject. :D
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

Personally, I'd have added a smiley to that statement...

Wow, this little post has sure sparked a lot of discussion. I decided not to name my OS now, just slapped a code name (Project Kudu) on it. (Kudu is an African antelope. Maybe I'll call v.2.0 "Antelope" or "Eland" or "Water Buffalo"

a few ideas:

MyOS

COST - Crappy Operating System Thing

if you have no pride in your OS call it Crap.

CRAP : Crappy:( Retarded :x And Possessed   . (it may have been the code name for Windows Vista?)

mines something little childish: CoolOS.

Totaly agree with xchg, no 'OS' in the name. Having 'OS' is in the name is just crap. My os name is related to my work - FOREX and its one of the nicknames of the pair I trade - volatile pair that gave me time to do my hobby(programing).

PS: MacOS is just crap as a name.

I've codenamed my OS Perception. It's not an official name (unless it sticks like Linux) but rather I thought up of it to identify my OS for folder names, etc.

I stick with simplistic names for my individual components, e.g. "kernel" "driver interface" "program manager". If I was referring to these components to anyone else I would simply say "my kernel", "my driver interface", etc, or more formally, "the Perception kernel".

Giving individual components abstract or creative names can become confusing to anyone not familiar with your OS. E.g. if I downloaded and tested your OS and you referred to your kernel as "Dingbat", your text editor as "Fingersize", and your web browser as "Spiderload" I would have no clue what anything is. I would choose a more appropriate name, e.g. for a text editor something like Text Editor, Writer, Notepad, would be more appropriate.
My OS is Perception.

I agree, unless the name just happens to end in 'os'... like "dynatos" (DynatOS) :P
