Name my OS for me
Irrelevant Necromancy
Hi all, I'm looking to name my OS. Everything I've come up with is either stupid, already taken, or a Spanish expletive (kidding). So, you yes you are going to name my OS for me. Go for it.

Personally, I hate (and won't use) any Operating System whose name ends with OS. CrapOS, MyOS, NewOS, WhatTheHellOS. I think an OS should be able to make its own name so if you even call it Crap, then people will immediately think of a good OS rather than the word Crap itself.
On the field with sword and shield amidst the din of dying of men's wails. War is waged and the battle will rage until only the righteous prevails.
My advice: Don't name your OS before you're ready for the 1.0 release. Chose some "project name", and worry about the "shelf name" of your OS later. Think "Chicago" (Windows 95), "Longhorn" (Windows Vista), or "Leopard" (Apple)...
No matter how "cool" a well-chosen name might be, chances are very good that your choice is already taken by a bigger hobby project or even corporation, or will be taken by the time you are ready for release (i.e., 5-25 years from now). Then you can choose to either sue them about it (fat chance), using the same name as a more prominent other project (and risk getting sued), or choosing a different name anyway.
And you want to have the web domain to go with your OS, won't you? Do you really want to pay domain registration for years just to keep your choice of today "free"?
(Unless I am alone with this thought, I'd like to add this to the Wiki, as it's definitely a FAQ item.)

Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.
